Our portraits in infrared

Gardener has a special camera that takes pictures in the near infrared. He cannot see at this wavelength but his camera can and it will make previously  unseen detail visible. Broccoli, Sunflower, and I found this difficult to understand since our chloroplasts operate just fine in this region. We stood up tall when he took our portraits. Gardner looked at the images and frowned. He saw spots on Sunflower’s leaves. I had a narrow fringe show up around the edges of mine. Fungus he said it was. Broccoli looked fabulous. Gardener is thinking about what to do. We do not have many options here in the wilderness.

My portrait in infrared; Gardner says that I have a fringe around my leaves that normally can not be seen and he will be watching closely to see if this changes.

Broccoli in infrared; he looks fabulous, no sign of any problems on his leaves.

Sunflower has spots; Gardner says he is coming down with brown patch and he will have to think of something to treat it with.
